Yahya A (John)

Yahya A (John), a Rasul (Messenger) of Allah (God), was the only son of Zakariyya A (Zechariah) also a Rasul (Messenger) of Allah (God).
His name Yahya A (John) was suggested by Allah (God) and was not used before by anyone in makind.

(Allah said) “O Zakariyya (Zechariyah)! Verily, We give you the glad tiding of a son, whose name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him).” Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:7

Zakariyya A (Zechariah) had become very old. He was always very concerned that since he did not have any child, no one will continue the Mission, that Allah (God) had given him, after him. He prayed to Allah (God) for an offspring.

Kaf-Ha-Ya-‘Ain-Sad [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur-an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.]

(This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariyya (Zechariyah).

When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret.

He said: “My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my heas, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to you, O my Lord!

And verily I fear my relatives after me, and my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir.

“Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya’qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not of wealth.). And make him one with whom You are Well-Pleased!”

Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:1-6

Allah (God) listened to the cry of his humble and obedient servant Zakariyya A (Zechariah) and gave him the good news of a son.

(Allah said) “O Zakariyya (Zechariyah)! Verily, We give you the glad tiding of a son, whose name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him).” Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:7

Zakariyyah A (Zechariah) was left speechless by the Mercy that Allah (God) showered upon him. For a moment he could not believe the good news. He could not comprehend the news because he had grown very old and his wife was barren. He asked Allah (God) that how could that be possible? Allah (God) reminded him that it was quite easy for Him because He has all Powers.

He said: “My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age.”

He said: “So (it will be). Your Lord says : It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!” Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:8-9

Still cofused, Zakariyya A (Zechariah) asked Allah (God) to put up a sign for him.

[Zakariyya (Zechariyah)] said: “My Lord! Appoint for me a sign.” He said: “Your sign is that you shal not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect.” Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:10

Zakariyya A (Zechariah) came out of his place of prayer and told his followers in signs to praise Allah (God).

Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room) and he told them by signs to glorify Allah’s praises in the morning and in the afternoon. Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:11

Allah (God) granted Zakariyya A (Zechariah) a son Yahya A (John) who was among the righteous.

(It was said to his son): “O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)].” And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:12

Yahya A (John) took very good care of his parents and continued to spread the Message of Allah (God).

And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:13,14

And dutiful towards his parents, and he was neither arrogant nor disobedient (to Allah or his parents). Surah (Chapter) Maryam (Mary) The Qur-an 19:13,14
